How the AI Resume Analyzer Works

1

Upload & extract

Your PDF or DOCX is read in memory. Scanned documents are detected and run through OCR automatically, just like our Smart OCR tool.

2

Structured AI analysis

The extracted text goes to the configured Gemini model with a strict JSON schema and grounding rules. Malformed responses are rejected, never guessed around.

3

Review, copy, download

Read the analysis in clear sections, copy it to your clipboard, or download it as a text report you can work through while editing your resume.

What the analysis includes

Resume overview

A concise factual summary, the detected profession or role, the experience level, and years of experience when the document supports it.

Skills

Technical skills, soft skills, tools and technologies, and the important keywords recruiters (and ATS filters) look for — all taken from your text.

Resume quality

Strengths, missing or weak sections, unclear wording, formatting and readability observations, and repetitive content.

ATS / job matching

With a pasted job description: matched keywords, missing keywords, partial matches, areas worth clarifying, and an overlap estimate from 0–100.

Clearly labeled suggestions

Improvement advice lives in its own section, visually separated from extracted facts, so nothing reads as a claim about your background.

Formats & limits

PDF or DOCX, up to 25 MB and 20 pages, with OCR fallback for scans. Larger documents should be trimmed to the resume itself for the sharpest analysis.

Privacy & handling of personal data

Resumes are some of the most personal documents you own. FileNova processes yours in memory only: text is extracted on our server, sent to the configured AI provider for the single analysis you requested, and returned to your browser with a no-store policy. We do not store resumes, log their contents, or retain anything after the response is delivered. If that matters to you (it should), remove contact details you would rather not send.

Frequently asked questions

Does the analyzer invent skills or experience I don't have?

No. The AI is instructed to base every extracted skill, keyword, and observation strictly on the text in your resume, and to return empty results when something isn't there. Improvement advice is clearly separated into its own 'AI Suggestions' section so you always know what came from your document and what is generated advice.

How does the job description comparison work?

Paste a job posting in the optional field and the analyzer compares it against your resume: keywords that appear in both, important keywords from the posting that are missing from your resume, near-matches, and a keyword-overlap estimate from 0 to 100. The score is an indicator of overlap — not a pass/fail verdict from a real applicant tracking system.

Which file formats can I upload?

PDF and DOCX (Word), up to 25 MB and 20 pages. Scanned PDFs are detected automatically and processed with OCR, though a text-based file always gives the most accurate analysis.

What happens to my resume after the analysis?

Nothing is stored. Your document is processed in memory to extract text, sent to the configured AI provider for the analysis you requested, and the result is returned to your browser with a no-store policy. FileNova does not keep resumes, build profiles, or train anything on your data.
